Saaransh Foundation with the support of Delhi Public School Gandhinagar observed World Dyslexia Awareness Week from 1st – 7th October.

Dyslexia which is perhaps the most common form of learning disability affects 1 in every 5 children all over the world. It affects a person’s reading and writing abilities and other related activities. Along with several other awareness programmes such as, “Go Green for Dyslexia”, “No Pens Day”, “Fun Fair” “Super Sale for Dyslexia” etc, Saaransh Foundation and DPS Gandhinagar held a seminar on Dyslexia for teachers and the school authorities.

The 1st of October was observed as a Green Day. 3rd October was observed as No Pens Day.

The 4th of October was observed as World Dyslexia Awareness Day. On that day, our in-house consultant for Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) Ms Manobina Chakraborty, who is also a member of British Dyslexia Association conducted two sessions for the teachers of DPS Gandhinagar. The Principal of DPSG Mr Atanu Rath was present throughout the seminars and shared his views about the school’s future plans to incorporate Dyslexia-friendly teaching methodologies in mainstream classrooms.

At present Saaransh Foundation and DPS Gandhinagar are together catering to the needs of about 75 students with specific learning difficulties, many of whom are Dyslexic.

We had a funfair for our students and staff on the 6th October and there was a mega jewellery display and sale on the 6th of October. The jewellery were made by our students themselves. The Director of Saaransh Foundation and DPS Gandhinagar Mrs Rani Chaudhry encouraged and appreciated the students and their mentors for taking such an initiative to spread awareness about Dyslexia. 6th October being the World Cerebral Palsy Day, Saaransh Foundation also held a discussion about Cerebral Palsy for the team members.

The contribution of Saaransh Foundation in spreading awareness about Dyslexia has been recognized by many organizations in the world and the photographs of their Dyslexia awareness activities are being posted and shared by renowned organizations in the UK and the USA.
